Job summary

AECOM in London is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to deliver cutting-edge designs for energy storage, solar and grid connection projects, with a focus on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across the UK and Europe.

You'll undertake FEED and detailed design, develop 11kV–400kV grid connection solutions, collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and clients, and contribute to bidding, project and quality management in a flexible hybrid work model.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Experience as FEED designer, detailed design or owner’s engineer for energy storage or renewables.
• Knowledge of battery storage technology and energy storage systems (12–400 kV range).
• Experience designing HV grid connections, metering and control for BESS installations.
• Experience in consultancy, contractor, equipment manufacturer or utility in energy sector.
• Knowledge of grid connection requirements (G99, G100, grid codes).
• Understanding of electrical plant items and control systems (transformers, cables, circuit breakers, HV protection & control).
• Familiar with software tools (AutoCAD, EnergyPro, CYMCAP, Cableizer, Autodesk Construction Cloud, ETAP, DigSILENT).
• Knowledge of emerging technologies (hybrid grid-forming inverters, LDES).
• Client-facing skills and team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Work on large renewables and energy storage projects, primarily in the UK and Ireland with some global exposure.
• Conduct FEED, planning, feasibility studies for energy storage and grid connections.
• Support bidding, project management and quality processes.
• Design BESS balance of plant (BOP) and develop grid-connection solutions (11kV–400kV).
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and clients to deliver innovative solutions.
• Assist the team with bidding, project and quality management.
