Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer for its Transmission & Distribution team in the UK. The role focuses on designing medium and low voltage electrical networks to DNO standards, developing feeder and substation layouts, and coordinating protection schemes across diverse energy projects.

You’ll collaborate with internal and external teams, write technical specifications, and support procurement while ensuring safety and compliance across the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Must understand British and DNO design standards.
• Experience writing clear and concise documentation.
• Knowledge of Power Systems characteristics.

Responsibilities

• Carry out MV and LV design to DNO standards.
• Develop ring/feeder network solutions (open/closed).
• Create intake and distribution substation layouts (MV/LV).
• Design primary plant and equipment (MV/LV).
• Produce protection/control schemes and wiring diagrams.
• Carry out cable sizing, routing, and terminations (MV/LV).
• Model earthing grids and perform touch/step/transfer calculations.
• Prepare SCADA interfaces and auxiliary/ COP metering designs.
• Provide standby and back-up power supply changeover solutions.
• Support equipment procurement with technical specifications.
• Liaise with suppliers/clients and contribute to electrical system studies.
• Demonstrate arc-flash/blast mitigation considerations.
• Participate in design reviews with Team Lead Verifier.
