Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join the Transmission & Distribution team in Manchester, with hybrid working options. You will design MV/LV electrical systems, engage with clients and suppliers, and drive compliant solutions across private, industrial, and renewables sectors.

You will contribute to protection, control schemes, and interface designs for SCADA, ensuring safety and reliability while supporting project delivery from concept through to construction.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering and knowledge of British and DNO design standards.
• Experience as Trainee/Assistant Electrical Engineer or graduate training in Energy/Power.
• Understanding of Power Systems’ functional characteristics.
• Ability to work with internal/external parties in a collaborative culture.
• Experience in writing clear and concise documentation.

Responsibilities

• Carry out MV and LV design work to DNO standards.
• Provide Open and Closed Ring and Radial feeder solutions.
• Carry out intake and distribution substation layouts (MV/LV).
• Conduct primary plant and equipment design (MV/LV).
• Produce secondary protection and control solution diagrams and wiring.
• Conduct cable sizing, routing, and termination drawings (MV/LV).
• Model earthing grids and perform touch/step/transfer calculations.
• Interface designs for SCADA, auxiliary supply and metering.
• Provide MV/LV standby and back-up power changeover solutions.
• Write technical specifications and support procurement.
• Collaborate with external suppliers and clients.
• Input into electrical system studies for MV/LV network modelling.
• Understand Arc-flash/Blast requirements and mitigations.
