Job summary

Stantec is seeking an Ecologist or Senior Ecologist to join a growing Ecology Team in the UK. You will work on a diverse portfolio, conduct surveys, design mitigation, and support licensing processes. Senior level includes mentoring junior ecologists and greater autonomy within a supportive team.

You should hold a BSc in Ecology, have consultancy experience, and be familiar with UK/EU wildlife legislation and the Defra Biodiversity Metric. A protected species licence is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum BSc in Ecology or related environmental discipline.
• Solid consultancy experience.
• Thorough understanding of UK and EU wildlife legislation and policy.
• Experience with UKHab classification and the Defra Biodiversity Metric.
• Protected species survey licence for at least one species (e.g., great crested newts or bats).
• Able to manage projects, budgets and client relationships; strong communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct surveys and assessments across varied projects.
• Design and implement mitigation and enhancement measures.
• Apply for and obtain protected species licences.
• Mentor junior ecologists and develop team capability.
