Job summary

Stantec is seeking an Ecologist or Senior Ecologist in the UK to join a growing Ecology Team. You will work with our Principal Ecologist across a varied portfolio, conducting surveys, designing mitigation, and contributing to project teams with planning and design colleagues.

You will mentor junior ecologists, handle complex work autonomously, and travel as required with a full UK driving licence. A strong foundation in wildlife policy and licensing is essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum BSc in Ecology or a related environmental discipline.
• Solid consultancy experience.
• Thorough understanding of UK and EU wildlife legislation and policy.
• Protected species survey licence for at least one species (e.g., great crested newts or bats).
• Experience with the protected species licensing process.

Responsibilities

• Conduct surveys and assessments across projects.
• Design and implement mitigation and enhancement measures.
• Apply for and obtain protected species licences.
• Contribute ecological input to multidisciplinary project teams.
• Mentor junior ecologists and develop their skills.
