Job summary

Primer is a remote-first, globally distributed company building a unified payments infrastructure. We seek an experienced infrastructure engineer to own the internal developer platform, drive AI-enabled tooling, and ensure reliable, scalable operations in production.

You will work with a distributed team, report to the Engineering Manager for Infrastructure & Data, and shape the tooling that makes engineers productive while enabling safe agent-driven workflows across Primer’s stack.

Qualifications

• Strong cloud infrastructure experience (AWS preferred; GCP also considered).
• Hands-on Kubernetes experience.
• Infrastructure-as-code as a working tool (Terraform preferred; alternatives fine).
• CI/CD as a core competency (build, test, deploy, and previews).
• Experience measuring delivery using DORA, SPACE, or equivalent.
• Comfortable owning production systems and being on-call.
• Genuine software engineering background (not just tooling).
• Ability to design developer-friendly tooling and AI-driven workflows.
• Async-first communication in a fully remote team.

Responsibilities

• Own Primer's internal developer platform end to end (CI/CD, deployments, canaries, blue/green).
• Build the human-AI development loop with tooling for agent-driven workflows.
• Make developer productivity a measurable system and ship improvements.
• Join on-call rotation and ensure reliability of your work.
• Set technical direction and mentor less experienced engineers.
• Improve tooling and internal APIs to reduce friction for engineers.
