Job summary

Volkswagen Group UK is seeking a knowledgeable Data Protection Specialist to join our Legal & Compliance Team. You will ensure compliance with UK data protection laws, advise business units and senior leaders, support the DPO, and drive privacy initiatives across the organisation.

You will manage DPIAs, maintain ROPA, coordinate data breach responses, DSARs, and liaise with the ICO. The role requires practical, accurate interpretation of regulatory guidance and strong stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

• Proven experience providing data protection advice within Compliance or Legal functions.
• Excellent understanding of ICO guidance and regulatory expectations in consumer credit or retail banking.
• Ability to manage complex, time-sensitive workloads with precision and professionalism.
• Ability to research, analyse, interpret and present regulatory information clearly.
• Comfortable challenging views and interpreting regulatory guidance accurately and proportionally.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement to influence and negotiate.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on UK Data Protection laws and regulatory changes.
• Maintain Registers of Processing Activities (ROPA).
• Assist in Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA).
• Lead the assessment, oversight and reporting of personal data breaches, including MI reporting to senior forums.
• Act as a key contact for DSARs, complaints and litigation matters related to data protection.
• Develop and execute second-line monitoring activities to assess compliance and drive improvements.
• Liaise with the ICO on customer complaints and regulatory inquiries, ensuring robust investigations and responses.
• Collaborate with Legal & Compliance colleagues across the business to resolve data protection issues.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance data protection compliance and efficiency.
