Legal & General is seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and evolve cloud-native platforms with a strong emphasis on AWS serverless technologies and MongoDB. You will guide technical direction, reduce complexity, and improve engineering practices within an Agile environment.

The role focuses on secure, scalable, and high-performing software, mentoring engineers and shaping the technical strategy while addressing technical debt and ensuring customer outcomes.

Qualifications

• Proven expertise in modern software engineering with emphasis on clean code and architecture.
• Hands-on experience delivering serverless solutions on AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, ECS).
• Deep MongoDB knowledge incl. schema design and aggregation.
• Strong testing culture: TDD, CI/CD, and containerisation.
• Security-focused development and cloud security practices.
• Experience leading and mentoring engineers in Agile settings.

Responsibilities

• Own design and delivery of high-quality software across features and services.
• Build and operate cloud-native, serverless apps on AWS for performance and cost efficiency.
• Influence architectural decisions and maintainable code quality.
• Identify and address technical debt for long-term reliability.
• Define test strategies focusing on security, accessibility, and non-functional requirements.
• Lead code reviews and coach team members to improve design and execution.
• Drive continuous improvement in processes, tooling, and ways of working.
• Mentor engineers and foster collaborative, inclusive culture.
