Job summary

Legal & General is seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and evolve cloud-native platforms. You will shape technical direction and drive secure, scalable solutions in an Agile environment, with a strong emphasis on AWS serverless tech and MongoDB.

You will mentor teammates, reduce technical debt, and ensure high-quality delivery, balancing rapid iteration with long-term system health across the organisation.

Qualifications

• Strong expertise in modern software engineering including clean code and architecture.
• Proven experience delivering serverless solutions on AWS with Lambda and API Gateway.
• Deep, practical experience with MongoDB including schema design and aggregation pipelines.
• Extensive experience building large-scale systems using TDD, CI/CD, and containerisation.
• Strong security-first mindset with secure development in cloud environments.
• Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems and make sound architectural decisions.
• Significant experience in Agile environments (Scrum/Kanban) and continuous improvement.
• Natural technical leader and communicator who mentors others and influences team culture.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and delivery of high-quality software across features and services.
• Build and operate cloud-native, serverless apps on AWS with a focus on security and performance.
• Lead by example in clean code and architectural best practices.
• Identify and address technical debt to improve maintainability and reliability.
• Define test strategies emphasizing security, accessibility, and non-functional requirements.
• Perform and lead high-quality code reviews to improve system design.
• Drive continuous improvement in processes, tooling, and ways of working.
• Mentor engineers and promote collaboration and knowledge sharing.
• Stay current with emerging cloud and data technologies and apply where relevant.
