Job summary

Legal & General is seeking a Senior Engineer to shape engineering excellence, own critical services, and drive high-quality software delivery at scale in a collaborative, inclusive environment.

You will lead the development of enterprise applications using Java/JVM languages, leverage AWS-based cloud-native architectures, and mentor engineers while promoting secure engineering practices across teams.

Qualifications

• Experience developing and supporting enterprise applications using Java or JVM-based languages.
• Cloud-native technology experience, especially AWS, serverless and containerised apps.
• Solid knowledge of software testing, automated testing and Test-Driven Development (TDD).
• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines within Agile environments.
• Knowledge of secure software development, web security and API security principles.
• Experience with microservices architectures, distributed systems and full-stack engineering.
• Strong technical leadership with mentoring ability.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Own services and major technical components, ensuring high standards of quality, security, performance and reliability.
• Define and evolve testing strategies, embedding automation and fast feedback loops across engineering teams.
• Drive improvements in observability through effective monitoring, metrics, logging and alerting capabilities.
• Use engineering and operational metrics to identify opportunities for improved delivery, reliability and quality outcomes.
• Champion secure engineering practices and partner with security specialists to mitigate risk effectively.
• Lead investigation and resolution of complex technical incidents, conducting root cause analysis and implementing lasting solutions.
• Mentor and coach engineers to strengthen capability across design, testing, security and operational excellence.
• Influence architecture, engineering standards and continuous improvement initiatives that support long-term business value.
