Job summary

Legal & General is seeking an accomplished Engineering Manager to lead scalable backend platforms built on Java and AWS. This hands-on leadership role blends technical excellence with people management, coaching engineers across career levels and delivering high-quality software.

You will partner with Product Owners and stakeholders to shape delivery, promote best practices, and drive architectural alignment while maintaining focus on security, resilience, and performance.

Qualifications

• Strong backend experience with Java/Spring Boot in large-scale environments.
• Proven track record delivering microservices architectures.
• Experience leading engineering teams and coaching engineers.
• Knowledge of AWS services and containerisation technologies.
• Familiar with CI/CD, automated testing, and Agile delivery.
• Ability to design secure, observable, and scalable systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead a cross-functional team of engineers, business analysts and testers.
• Provide technical leadership across Java-based microservices and AWS platforms.
• Own end-to-end delivery with Product Owners, refining requirements and prioritising.
• Drive technical debt strategy for long-term sustainability.
• Define testing practices and oversee code quality and security.
