Job summary

Legal & General is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build and evolve its cloud‑native platforms. You will own end‑to‑end delivery, champion clean code and modern architecture, and mentor teammates in an Agile environment emphasizing security and performance.

You will work with AWS serverless tech, MongoDB, and infrastructure‑as‑code, shaping technical direction, reducing debt, and delivering scalable, cost‑effective solutions for customers and the business.

Qualifications

• Strong expertise in modern software engineering, including clean code, design patterns, distributed systems, microservices, and cloud‑native application design.
• Proven experience delivering serverless solutions on AWS with Lambda, API Gateway, ECS and IaC using CloudFormation and serverless frameworks.
• Deep MongoDB experience including schema design, performance tuning, and aggregation pipelines, plus knowledge of SQL and NoSQL stores.
• Extensive practice with TDD, CI/CD pipelines, containers, reliability and operability.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and delivery of high‑quality software end‑to‑end across features, services and systems for meaningful outcomes.
• Build and operate cloud‑native, serverless apps on AWS with security, resilience and cost optimization.
• Lead by example with clean code and architecture aligned to SSDLC and tech strategy.
• Identify and address technical debt for long‑term maintainability and reliability.
• Define and influence test strategies focusing on security, usability and non‑functional requirements.
• Perform and lead high‑quality code reviews to improve design and team capability.
• Drive continuous improvement in processes, tooling, and ways of working.
