Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking a Civil Engineer to join its Civil Nuclear team. You will contribute to the full nuclear asset lifecycle—from new build and operations to decommissioning—delivering infrastructure for major programmes and SMR/AMR concepts across the UK.

Working with experts in civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental, and energy engineering, you will develop and deliver designs, feasibility studies, and option reviews while ensuring compliance with standards.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng MICE) or working towards professional chartership.
• Experience delivering civil engineering projects throughout the nuclear asset lifecycle, including new build, operations, asset care and maintenance, life extension, decommissioning, waste management and environmental remediation, with an understanding of UK nuclear programmes, including SMRs, AMRs and associated infrastructure.
• Experience in the design and delivery of civil engineering solutions, including site development, earthworks, drainage, highways, utilities and reinforced concrete structures.
• Good understanding of relevant design codes and standards including British Standards, Eurocodes, and nuclear‑specific standards
• Experience undertaking feasibility studies, optioneering, concept design and detailed design activities.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and coordinate interfaces across complex engineering projects.
• Understanding of design risk management, CDM regulations and the application of health and safety principles throughout the project lifecycle.
• Good technical report writing, analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver and review civil engineering designs that support projects throughout the nuclear asset lifecycle, including new build, operations, asset care and maintenance, life extension, and decommissioning.
• Develop civil engineering solutions for site development, roads and access infrastructure, drainage, earthworks, utility networks and reinforced concrete and steel structures.
• Take responsibility for defined civil engineering work packages, ensuring high-quality technical outputs.
• Undertake feasibility studies, optioneering, site assessments and concept design activities.
• Coordinate civil engineering designs with structural, geotechnical, mechanical, electrical and process engineering requirements.
• Prepare and review calculations, specifications, technical reports, design risk assessments and health and safety documentation.
• Support design coordination, programme management, resource planning and delivery to agreed budgets and timescales.
• Apply relevant standards, procedures and quality requirements within highly regulated environments.
• Work directly with clients, stakeholders and delivery partners to understand requirements and resolve technical challenges.
• Mentor and provide guidance and technical support to graduate and early career engineers.
• Contribute to technical improvement, knowledge sharing and the continued development of WSP’s Civil Nuclear capability.
