Job summary

Wellcome Sanger Institute’s Vento Lab is seeking a Senior Bioinformatician/Computational Biologist to lead single-cell, spatial transcriptomics and CRISPR data analyses across immune cell and reproductive-tissue projects. You will design and implement analyses from alignment to clustering, interpret results with biological context, and communicate findings to collaborators.

Strong Python/R skills, Unix/HPC experience, and a publications record are required; hybrid working is supported.

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent in a relevant biological/computational field.
• In-depth experience with single-cell transcriptomics across full analytical workflows.
• Ability to align computational work with team scientific priorities and timelines.
• Strong molecular/cellular biology grounding and critical interpretation of results.

Responsibilities

• Lead analysis of large-scale single-cell and spatial transcriptomics datasets.
• Address technical artefacts and batch effects with evidence-based decisions.
• Design biologically informed analytical approaches aligned with experiments.
• Develop innovative analytical strategies beyond standard pipelines.
• Collaborate within the Vento team and communicate results to stakeholders.
