Job summary

Wellcome Sanger Institute seeks a Senior Bioinformatician/Computational Biologist to lead single-cell and spatial transcriptomics analyses within the Vento Lab. You will interpret results biologically, design informed analytical strategies and collaborate across projects focused on immune cell biology in reproductive tissues.

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent in a relevant biological, computational or quantitative discipline.
• Demonstrated in-depth experience in single-cell transcriptomics across the full analytical workflow.
• Ability to align computational work with team priorities and deliver timely results.
• Strong grounding in molecular and cellular biology for tissue context interpretation.
• Track record of publications or equivalent outputs.
• Proficiency in Python and/or R; experience in Unix/HPC environments.
• Proactive attitude, problem-solving skills and collaborative working style.
• Ability to manage workload and communicate complex ideas effectively.

Responsibilities

• Lead analysis of large-scale single-cell and spatial transcriptomics datasets across projects.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues from sequencing to clustering and downstream inference.
• Design biologically informed analytical approaches aligned with experimental design.
• Develop creative data analysis strategies beyond standard pipelines.
• Collaborate within the Vento interdisciplinary team and support problem solving.
• Communicate results clearly to project leaders and the scientific community.
• Organise and manage code and generated data within the group.
