Job summary

Wellcome Sanger Institute is seeking a Senior Bioinformatician to join the Vento Lab, leading single-cell and spatial transcriptomics data analysis across immune cell biology focused projects. You will troubleshoot pipelines, design biologically informed analyses, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver insights and publications.

The role demands a strong track record and a proactive, precise approach.

Qualifications

PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
In-depth experience in single-cell transcriptomics across full analytical workflow.
Ability to align computational work with team priorities and deliver on time.
Strong molecular and cellular biology grounding and contextual interpretation.
Track record of publications or equivalent outputs.
Proficiency in Python and/or R; experience in Unix/HPC environments.
Enthusiastic, proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
Strong problem-solving and collaborative skills.
Ability to manage own workload and competing priorities.
Ability to present complex information concisely to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

Lead analysis of large-scale single-cell, spatial transcriptomics and multiomics data.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues across workflow stages from alignment to downstream inference.
Design biologically informed analytical approaches aligned with experiments.
Implement innovative data analysis strategies beyond standard pipelines.
Collaborate within the Vento team and contribute to problem solving.
Communicate results to project leaders, collaborators and the scientific community.
Organise and manage developed code and generated data.
