Job summary

Hallfield School in Edgbaston, Birmingham is seeking a Teaching Assistant (1:1 Pupil Support) to provide dedicated support for a KS3 pupil with SEND. Role involves creating resources, monitoring progress, and working with the Head of Learning Success to tailor interventions.

SEND Teaching Assistant (1:1 Pupil Support)

Ideal Start Date: September 2026 (a later start date may be considered)

Edgbaston, Birmingham

Actual Salary: £22,294 - £23,404 per annum, dependent on relevant experience, skills and qualifications

Hours: Full time, 40 hours per week with a 30-minute unpaid break.

Working Weeks: Term time only (35 weeks plus all INSET days)

The Role

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, supportive and proactive Teaching Assistant with relevant experience of working with children with additional needs either on a 1:1 or small group capacity.

Experience of working within a secondary school setting is desirable, however primary experience from Year 5 upwards would also be considered.

This rewarding role will involve providing dedicated 1:1 support to a KS3 pupil with Special Educational Needs, Working in close collaboration with the class teacher, and the Head of Learning Success, you will be involved in creating and adapting resources and study skills to assist the pupil accessing learning. Experience of supporting ASD would be desirable, with ELSA training, or a willingness to undertake the training being essential as you will be supporting the pupil develop socially and emotionally whilst also encouraging and developing independence.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a passion for supporting children with SEND to access learning across the curriculum and understand the importance of an individualised approach and positive relationships.

Clear communication, a collaborative approach and commitment to supporting the pupil through their secondary education (proactively undertaking any CPD identified in the role) will be assessed at interview, with a clear understanding of their safeguarding responsibilities will also be expected.

The Ideal Candidate
Essential:
  • Relevant experience, and a genuine passion for supporting teaching and learning, in particular supporting children with additional needs
  • Experience of working with children in the 7 -11 age range, and in particular Year 5 upwards
  • Experience of working with children with SEND either through 1:1 or small group support
  • Experience of delivering evidence-based interventions, and personalised learning
  • Experience of tracking and monitoring children s progress
  • Demonstrates a passion for supporting children with additional needs
  • Proactive and resourceful, with the initiative and creative ability to adapt and create resources to support learning
  • A calm, patient and adaptable approach
  • Ability to establish and maintain good professional relationships and collaborate with parents, and colleagues
  • Excellent and effective verbal communication skills including the ability to provide clear instructions and adapt approach as needed
  • Be confident managing challenging behaviours in a calm and professional manner with an ability to e• GCSE (or equivalent) English and Maths (grade C or above)
  • Current Paediatric First Aid Certificate or willingness to undertake training
  • To have completed ELSA training or be willing to undertake in the role.
