Job summary

Leicestershire County Council is seeking a SENDIASS Officer to empower families of children and young people with SEND. The role focuses on impartial information, advice and guidance within the SEND Code of Practice, ensuring families are heard and supported to advocate for outcomes that matter.

The post involves supporting families through meetings, reviews, mediation and tribunal processes, with strong emphasis on safeguarding, inclusion and collaboration with schools and local authorities.

Qualifications

  • Specialist knowledge of SEND legislation, EHCP processes and statutory rights for children, young people and families.
  • Experience of providing impartial information, advice and guidance to families and young people.
  • Ability to support and represent families through meetings, reviews, mediation and tribunal processes.
  • Strong advocacy and negotiation skills, with confidence in providing professional challenge where required.
  • Considerable experience of supporting families or children with special educational needs.
  • Experience of working effectively with schools, local authorities and other partner agencies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and case recording.
  • Knowledge of School and Local Authority's statutory responsibility for SEN and knowledge of SEN disability law.

  • Demonstrate advocacy and negotiation skills in challenging scenarios when required.
