Job summary

Teaching Personnel and a welcoming primary school in Taunton are seeking a committed SEND Teaching Assistant to join from October 2026. You will provide dedicated 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND, helping them access the curriculum and engage positively with learning.

As part of the team you will work closely with teachers and the SENCO, adapt approaches to individual needs, and contribute to a safe, inclusive classroom.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar education setting.
• Experience supporting children with SEND.
• A calm, patient and consistent approach.
• The confidence to manage challenging situations positively.
• The ability to adapt your approach to individual pupils.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• A genuine commitment to helping children become more independent.
• The ability to work closely with teachers and other professionals.
• A reliable, professional and proactive attitude.
• A strong understanding of safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.

Responsibilities

• Providing consistent 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND.
• Helping pupils access the curriculum and engage positively with their learning.
• Building trusting and supportive relationships with pupils.
• Supporting pupils with communication, social, emotional and learning needs.
• Encouraging independence and helping pupils develop confidence in their abilities.
• Supporting pupils who may require additional help with emotional regulation or behaviour.
• Following individual support and learning plans.
• Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team.
• Adapting your approach to meet individual pupils' needs.
• Providing reassurance and consistency throughout the school day.
• Helping create a positive, inclusive and nurturing classroom environment.
• Maintaining high standards of safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.
