  • Monitor pupil progress and ensure interventions and support strategies are effective.
  • Support and guide staff with SEND strategies, differentiation and inclusive practice.
  • Ensure SEND provision meets statutory requirements and the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Undertake teaching responsibilities, including planning, delivering and assessing lessons.
  • Adapt teaching to meet pupils' individual needs.
  • Create a safe, structured and supportive learning environment.

Job description

Bright Star Talent is recruiting on behalf of a specialist SEN school in Erdington, Birmingham, who are looking for an experienced and passionate SENCO to join their team on a permanent basis.

This is an urgent permanent appointment, and the school is keen to move quickly. They are looking to interview suitable candidates ASAP and can arrange interviews this week if necessary.

This is a hands-on role combining SENCO leadership with teaching responsibilities, so we are looking for someone who is confident leading SEND provision while remaining actively involved in teaching.

The Role

As SENCO, you will:

  • Lead and oversee SEND provision across the school.
  • Coordinate and review EHCPs, ensuring appropriate support and outcomes are in place.
  • Work closely with senior leadership, teachers, support staff, parents/carers and external professionals.
  • Monitor pupil progress and ensure interventions and support strategies are effective.
  • Support and guide staff with SEND strategies, differentiation and inclusive practice.
  • Ensure SEND provision meets statutory requirements and the SEND Code of Practice.

The Ideal Candidate
  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Has strong experience within SEN/SEND education.
  • Has previous SENCO or SEND leadership experience.
  • Holds the NASENCO or NPQ for SENCO, where required.
  • Has a strong understanding of EHCPs, SEND legislation and the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Is confident balancing SENCO leadership and teaching responsibilities.
  • Is organised, proactive and passionate about improving outcomes for pupils with additional needs.
Compliance Requirements
  • Hold a fully Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one.
  • Provide satisfactory employment references.
  • Complete all required safeguarding and compliance checks before commencing work.
  • Provide evidence of relevant qualifications and right to work in the UK.
  • Complete Bright Star Talent's full registration and vetting process.
