Job summary

Destination Education is delighted to assist an excellent school in Walthamstow, East London, in recruiting an experienced SENCO on a full-time basis. This role focuses on leading the school's SEN provision and coordinating support for pupils with SEND.

The successful candidate will work with SLT, staff, families and external professionals to drive inclusive practice and improve outcomes, ensuring high standards of safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.

Qualifications

• Experience as SENCO or senior SEN leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the school's SEN provision in line with current legislation and best practice.
• Collaborate with SLT, teachers, parents/carers and external professionals.
• Oversee identification, assessment and support of pupils with additional needs.
• Develop and review effective SEN policies and provision.
• Coordinate EHCP processes with external agencies.
• Support teachers to develop inclusive classroom strategies.
• Monitor pupil progress and evaluate SEN interventions.
• Promote a positive, inclusive culture where every pupil can reach their potential.

Contract: Full-time

Start Date: ASAP / September 2026 to July 2027

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious SEN professional to take on a key role within a supportive and inclusive school environment, working alongside a committed leadership team and dedicated staff.

The Role

As SENCO, you will play a central role in ensuring that pupils with special educational needs and disabilities receive the support, provision and opportunities they need to thrive.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading and managing the school's SEN provision in line with current legislation and best practice.
• Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, teachers, support staff, parents/carers and external professionals.
• Overseeing the identification, assessment and support of pupils with additional needs.
• Developing and reviewing effective SEN policies, systems and provision.
• Coordinating EHCP processes and working collaboratively with external agencies.
• Supporting teachers to develop inclusive and effective classroom strategies.
• Monitoring pupil progress and evaluating the impact of SEN interventions.
• Promoting a positive, inclusive culture where every pupil is supported to achieve their potential.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will ideally:

• Have experience working as a SENCO or in a senior SEN leadership role.
• Hold, or be willing to obtain, the National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) where applicable.
• Have a strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and current SEN legislation.
• Have excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.
• Be passionate about inclusion and improving outcomes for children and young people.
• Be confident working with parents, carers, staff and external professionals.
• Be proactive, approachable and committed to making a genuine difference to pupils' lives.
