Job summary

Destination Education is working with a highly regarded Walthamstow school to recruit an experienced SENCO on a full-time basis. The role focuses on leading SEN provision, coordinating EHCPs and developing inclusive strategies in a supportive school community.

The successful candidate will have SENCO or senior SEN leadership experience, knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and strong communication and leadership skills. DBS checks and safeguarding are part of the process.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the school's SEN provision in line with legislation and best practice.
• Collaborate with SLT, teachers, support staff, parents/carers and external professionals.
• Oversee identification, assessment and support of pupils with additional needs.
• Develop and review SEN policies, systems and provision.
• Coordinate EHCP processes with external agencies.
• Support teachers to develop inclusive classroom strategies.
• Monitor pupil progress and evaluate the impact of SEN interventions.
• Promote an inclusive culture where every pupil can achieve their potential.

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

The Role

As SENCO, you will play a central role in ensuring that pupils with special educational needs and disabilities receive the support, provision and opportunities they need to thrive.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading and managing the school's SEN provision in line with current legislation and best practice.
• Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, teachers, support staff, parents/carers and external professionals.
• Overseeing the identification, assessment and support of pupils with additional needs.
• Developing and reviewing effective SEN policies, systems and provision.
• Coordinating EHCP processes and working collaboratively with external agencies.
• Supporting teachers to develop inclusive and effective classroom strategies.
• Monitoring pupil progress and evaluating the impact of SEN interventions.
• Promoting a positive, inclusive culture where every pupil is supported to achieve their potential.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will ideally:

• Have experience working as a SENCO or in a senior SEN leadership role.
• Hold, or be willing to obtain, the National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) where applicable.
• Have a strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and current SEN legislation.
• Have excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.
• Be passionate about inclusion and improving outcomes for children and young people.
• Be confident working with parents, carers, staff and external professionals.
• Be proactive, approachable and committed to making a genuine difference to pupils' lives.
