Job summary

Monarch Education is seeking an enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils in a welcoming Manchester secondary school. You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to help students access the curriculum and build confidence both academically and socially.

Experience with SEND (autism, SEMH, learning difficulties) is ideal, along with patience, resilience and a calm, nurturing approach. DBS Update Service or willingness to apply is required.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND (e.g., autism, SEMH, learning difficulties).
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Relevant training (e.g. Team Teach, Makaton, ASD awareness) desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Additional Educational Needs.
  • Support students with needs such as Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and language difficulties, tailoring assistance.
  • Work with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to help pupils access the curriculum and meet goals.
  • Adapt learning resources and activities to individual learners’ needs and abilities.
  • Promote inclusion, independence and positive social interaction, building confidence.

Are you a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant looking to make a real difference in a Manchester secondary school?

Monarch Education is recruiting a caring and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to support students in a welcoming secondary school in South Manchester. You’ll work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to help pupils with a range of special educational needs access the curriculum, build confidence, and achieve their full potential both academically and socially.

You’ll play a key role in providing tailored support for students with additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and learning difficulties. Using a patient and nurturing approach, you’ll help pupils overcome barriers to learning, develop essential life skills, and thrive in a positive and inclusive school environment.

The Role
  • 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Additional Educational Needs (AEN), helping them engage confidently in learning.
  • Support students with needs such as Autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language difficulties, and moderate learning difficulties, tailoring assistance to individual requirements.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to help pupils access the curriculum and achieve their learning goals.
  • Adapt learning resources, classroom activities, and support strategies to meet the specific needs and abilities of individual learners.
  • Promote inclusion, independence, and positive social interaction, helping students build confidence both academically and emotionally.
  • Monitor, record, and report on pupil progress, contributing to support plans and working collaboratively with school staff to maximise outcomes.
Essential Requirements
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND, e.g. autism, SEMH, physical or sensory needs
  • Relevant training (e.g. Team Teach, Makaton, ASD awareness) desirable
  • Patience, resilience and a calm, nurturing approach
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
