Job summary

A leading education staffing provider in Birmingham is looking for a SEN Teaching Assistant to support children with complex needs in a specialist school. This role involves assisting with personal care, following individualized plans, and providing a nurturing environment. Ideal candidates will have relevant qualifications and a compassionate approach to helping children thrive. This position is temporary with the potential for permanent placement and requires experience working with children in the UK.

Qualifications

• Experience in care, SEN, healthcare or educational settings is required.
• A positive, patient, and nurturing approach is essential.
• Knowledge of PMLD, SLD, physical disabilities is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with complex physical, sensory and medical needs.
• Assist with physiotherapy and sensory-led learning.
• Provide personal care including feeding and hygiene.

Location: Erdington
Hours: 32.5 hours per week (8:30am – 3:30pm)
Start Date: ASAP

We are now seeking caring, committed and resilient SEN Teaching Assistants to join their supportive team. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on helping children overcome barriers, develop independence and experience success every day.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support pupils with complex physical, sensory and medical needs, following individualised plans
• Assist with physiotherapy, mobility programmes and sensory‑led learning (training provided)
• Support pupils with personal care, including feeding, toileting and hygiene routines
• Use assistive communication tools such as AAC, visual supports, eye‑gaze, switches or communication boards
• Work closely with teachers, therapists and medical staff to deliver holistic support
• Help create an engaging, safe and inclusive classroom environment
• Provide 1:1 or group support tailored to pupils’ learning, wellbeing and physical needs

What We’re Looking For:

• Experience supporting children, young people or vulnerable adults in any care, SEN, healthcare or educational setting
• Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (essential)
• A positive, patient and nurturing approach
• Ability to remain calm and confident when supporting pupils with complex needs
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Knowledge of PMLD, SLD, physical disabilities, hoisting, or M&H (desirable but not essential)
