Job summary

Monarch Education in Salford is recruiting a SEN Teaching Assistant (Autism Specialist) to support pupils in a welcoming secondary school. Start date October; Pay: £92-£115 Per Day.

You’ll work 1:1 and in small groups with students on the autism spectrum, collaborating with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to help learners access the curriculum and develop independence.

Are you a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant with experience supporting Autism looking to make a real difference in a Salford secondary school?

Monarch Education is recruiting a caring and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant (Autism Specialist) to support students in a welcoming secondary school in Salford. You’ll work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to help pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) access learning, develop independence, and achieve their full potential both academically and socially.

You’ll play a key role in providing tailored support for students with autism, using a patient, structured, and nurturing approach to meet individual learning, communication, and sensory needs. You will help create a positive and inclusive learning environment, supporting pupils to build confidence, develop social skills, and overcome barriers to education.

Working both inside and outside the classroom, you’ll implement personalised support strategies, encourage positive behaviour, and help students engage successfully with the curriculum. Your contribution will be essential in ensuring pupils feel safe, understood, and empowered to thrive in school.

The Role
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), helping them engage confidently in learning and achieve their individual targets.
  • Support students with a range of communication, sensory, social, and emotional needs, using tailored strategies to promote positive outcomes and independence.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and pastoral staff to ensure pupils can access the curriculum and fully participate in school life.
  • Adapt learning resources, classroom activities, and support approaches to meet the specific needs of autistic learners, creating a structured and inclusive learning environment.
  • Promote the development of social skills, emotional regulation, communication, and self-confidence, helping students build positive relationships with peers and staff.
  • Monitor, record, and report on pupil progress, contributing to EHCP targets and support plans while working collaboratively with school staff to maximise student achievement and wellbeing.
Essential Requirements
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND, e.g. autism, SEMH, physical or sensory needs
  • Relevant training (e.g. Team Teach, Makaton, ASD awareness) desirable
  • Patience, resilience and a calm, nurturing approach
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
  • Right to work in the UK
