Job summary

Monarch Education is seeking an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils in a specialist setting in Staffordshire, Lichfield. The role focuses on emotional regulation, behaviour management, engagement in learning and social development, working in a long-term, full-time capacity.

You will collaborate with teachers, therapists and other professionals to deliver personalised support, using PECS, Makaton and other strategies to help each pupil access learning and reach their potential.

Qualifications

  • Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant experience.
  • Experience supporting children with SEMH.
  • Experience working with pupils with autism (ASC), PMLD, behavioural management and regulating behaviour.
  • Patient, caring and adaptable approach.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to stay calm and supportive in challenging situations.
  • Genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with complex needs.
  • Support children with autism, communication difficulties, physical disabilities, sensory needs and medical requirements.
  • Assist with implementing IEPs and personalised learning programmes.
  • Encourage pupils’ independence, confidence and social development.
  • Support communication using visual aids, PECS, Makaton or other strategies.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, parents and staff.
  • Assist with personal care and mobility support where required.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.

Pay Rate: £95 – £130 per day (depending on experience)

Do you have experience working with pupils who require additional support with emotional regulation, behaviour management, engagement in learning, and social development?

Monarch Education is seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEMHteaching assistant to join a specialist educational setting in Staffordshire, Lichfield. This rewarding long-term opportunity is ideal for someone who is committed to helping children overcome barriers to learning and achieve their individual potential in a safe, nurturing environment.

The Role

As a Social Emotional and Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who require highly personalised support throughout the school day. You’ll play a vital role in helping students access learning, develop independence, build confidence, and achieve meaningful progress both academically and socially.

Working alongside teachers, therapists, and other support professionals, you will contribute to creating positive learning experiences tailored to each pupil’s unique needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with a range of complex learning needs.
  • Support children with autism, communication difficulties, physical disabilities, sensory processing needs, and medical requirements.
  • Assist with implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and personalised learning programmes.
  • Encourage pupils’ independence, confidence, and social development.
  • Support communication using visual aids, PECS, Makaton, or other communication strategies where appropriate.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, parents, and staff.
  • Assist with personal care and mobility support where required.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.
What We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from candidates who have:

  • A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or relevant experience.
  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH
  • Experience working with pupils with autism (ASC), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), behavioural management and regulating behaviour
  • A patient, caring, and adaptable approach.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.

Experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, SEN Support Worker, Care Worker, Residential Support Worker, Healthcare Assistant, or Youth Worker is highly desirable.
