Job summary

Educate Group is seeking enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistants to work across Nantwich and surrounding areas. You will support pupils with various special educational needs in different school settings, helping them access learning and develop essential skills.

Ideal candidates bring patience, empathy, and a collaborative approach to work with teachers, SENCOs, and support staff. Flexible, regular hours and ongoing consultant support are provided through the Educate Group.

Qualifications

  • Caring, patient and empathetic approach to supporting children and young people.
  • Flexible and adaptable to varying school environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience or willingness to work with pupils with SEN is desirable.
  • Enhanced DBS via Update Service or willingness to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Support the classroom teacher in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons.
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support tailored to pupil needs.
  • Support pupils with SEN and disabilities across varied settings.
  • Assist pupils with learning, communication, social, emotional and behavioural development.
  • Support pupils with Individual Learning Plans and targets.
  • Help pupils develop independence, confidence and life skills.
  • Adapt activities and resources to meet individual needs.
  • Support behaviour management using appropriate strategies.
  • Assist with preparing and organising classroom materials and resources.
  • Create and maintain a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Follow school safeguarding requirements and policies.

Duties
  • Supporting the classroom teacher in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons.
  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support tailored to individual pupil needs.
  • Supporting pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Assisting pupils with their learning, communication, social, emotional, and behavioural development.
  • Supporting children with their individual learning plans and targets.
  • Helping pupils develop independence, confidence, and essential life skills.
  • Adapting classroom activities and resources to meet individual needs.
  • Supporting pupils who may display challenging or distressed behaviour using appropriate strategies.
  • Assisting the teacher with preparing and organising classroom materials and resources.
  • Creating and maintaining a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Following school policies, procedures, and safeguarding requirements.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, support staff, parents, and other professionals where appropriate.
  • Providing feedback on pupil progress and contributing to ongoing assessments.
Requirements of a SEN Teaching Assistant
  • A caring, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting children and young people.
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
  • Availability to work aminimum of 3 days per week.
  • Previous experience working with children or young people; SEN or school-based experience is desirable.
  • Experience supporting pupils with additional needs is desirable but not essential.
  • A relevant qualification, such as aLevel 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, is desirable but not essential.
  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils.
  • Confidence in supporting behaviour effectively and sensitively.A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
