Academics in the United Kingdom is seeking Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistants for short- and long-term support in partnership primary schools and SEN provisions around Cheadle. You will provide 1:1 and small-group support for learners with autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, and SEMH; maintain inclusive, safe learning environments and work with staff, SENCO, and external agencies.

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN is desirable.
  • Calm, resilient, and able to remain consistent under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to build trusting relationships and implement clear structures and routines.
  • Empathetic, flexible, and committed to long-term support for the learner(s).
  • A good level of literacy and numeracy skills.
  • A current Enhanced DBS that is registered with the Update Service, or you will be prepared to apply for a new DBS (cost applied).

  • Assisting the class teacher in adapting classroom activities and resources.
  • Managing behaviour and engaging learners with their own learning.

Academics are currently looking for Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistants for short and long term supporting roles within our partnership primary schools and SEN provisions. Working across Cheadle and the surrounding Staffordshire Moorland areas can be diversified, meaning that we do have different requirements to suit.

Our temporary opportunities are ideal for SEN Teaching Assistants who are seeking varied experience in a variety of schools. a work-life balance, or those returning to the workforce on a full or part-time flexible basis.

We are proud to say that here at Academics we have had a strong record of placing many of our SEN Teaching Assistants into permanent work following a successful period of long term supply within our schools and provisions.

Responsibilities of a Special Education Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant:
  • Providing high quality 1:1 and/or small group support/interventions for learners who have with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, Speech and Language needs, SEMH, and other learning difficulties.

  • The ability to create and foster an inclusive and safe learning environment for all of the learners within your class and the wider school community.
For this role, applicants who apply must have:
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN is desirable.

  • Able to build trusting relationships and implement clear structures and routines.

Please be aware that your daily rate will be dependent upon experience, prior qualifications, training, and the client rate that is currently available.
