Job summary

Protocol Education is recruiting an enthusiastic SEN Teacher to join a specialist SEND provision in Sunderland from September 2026.

You will plan and deliver differentiated lessons, adapt curriculums to meet individual needs, and work closely with Teaching Assistants, SENCO and parents to support pupil progress and wellbeing.

This long-term role offers school-hours, Monday to Friday, with potential for permanent employment and a supportive, inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in a special school or SEND setting preferred.
• Ability to adapt curriculum for SEND needs.
• Experience with EHCP outcomes and planning may be advantageous.

Salary: £31,650-£51,048 per annum / PAYE, dependent on experience and qualifications

Protocol Education are currently recruiting for an enthusiastic, committed and experienced SEN Teacher to join a specialist education setting in Sunderland from September 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about SEND and wants to work in an environment where individual progress, relationships and pupil wellbeing are just as important as academic achievement.

The setting supports pupils with a range of additional needs, and the successful teacher will be responsible for creating an engaging, structured and inclusive learning environment where every pupil has the opportunity to achieve.

About the Role

As an SEN Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging lessons that are adapted to meet the individual needs, abilities and interests of your pupils.

You will:

• Plan and deliver high-quality, differentiated lessons.
• Adapt the curriculum to meet individual learning needs.
• Set realistic but ambitious targets for pupils.
• Support pupils with a range of SEND needs.
• Create a calm, structured and nurturing classroom environment.
• Develop strong and positive relationships with pupils.
• Promote independence, confidence and self-esteem.
• Monitor and assess pupil progress.
• Maintain accurate records of attainment and development.
• Work towards individual EHCP outcomes.
• Use a range of teaching strategies to engage pupils.
• Work closely with Teaching Assistants and support staff.
• Liaise with the SENCO, pastoral staff and wider multidisciplinary teams.
• Communicate effectively with parents and carers.
• Support pupils' social, emotional and communication development.
• Promote positive behaviour through consistent and restorative approaches.
