Job summary

Protocol Education is seeking a confident SEN Teacher specialising in SEMH and behaviour to join a specialist setting in Sunderland.

You will create a calm, structured classroom environment, differentiating lessons to meet individual needs and building strong relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues. This is a long-term role with potential for permanent opportunities and progression.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with SEMH, PRU, alternative provision or specialist SEND settings preferred.
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to differentiate and adapt lessons to meet individual needs.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons.

Location: Sunderland
Job Type: Full Time
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Long-term with permanent opportunities
Hours: Monday–Friday, school hours
Salary: £31,650–£51,048 per annum / PAYE, dependent on experience and qualifications

Protocol Education are looking for a confident and resilient SEN Teacher specialising in SEMH and behaviour to join a specialist setting in Sunderland.

This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who understands that positive relationships are often the foundation for successful learning.

The pupils may have experienced difficulties within mainstream education and require a more structured, consistent and personalised approach.

About the Role

You will create a classroom environment where pupils feel safe, understood and encouraged to succeed.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging lessons.
  • Differentiating work to meet individual needs.
  • Supporting pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.
  • Establishing clear and consistent classroom expectations.
  • Using positive behaviour management strategies.
  • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation.
  • Building strong professional relationships.
  • Identifying barriers to learning.
  • Developing personalised strategies to overcome those barriers.
  • Tracking and assessing pupil progress.
  • Working towards EHCP outcomes.
  • Supporting pupils to develop independence.
  • Working closely with Teaching Assistants and pastoral teams.
  • Liaising with parents, carers and other professionals.
  • Creating an environment where pupils feel confident to participate.
