Key Responsibilities:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant in a specialist setting, your role is crucial to the success and well-being of the pupils. You will be responsible for:

  • Delivering individualised support plans, including therapeutic activities and communication strategies, to meet each pupil's unique needs.

  • Providing assistance with personal care, mobility, and feeding, always maintaining a child's dignity and comfort.

  • Confidently and calmly managing and de-escalating challenging behaviours using specialist techniques in line with a pupil's plan.

  • Using non-verbal communication methods, such as PECS or Makaton, to build rapport and aid pupil expression.

  • Working seamlessly with the class teacher, therapists, and a multi-disciplinary team to ensure a consistent and supportive approach.

Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you must possess:

  • Demonstrable experience working with children with profound, complex, and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) in a specialist setting.

  • An Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or be willing to apply for a new one).

  • The legal right to work in the UK without any restrictions.

  • Specific training in areas such as Team Teach, Team-Ex, Makaton, PECS, or similar techniques is highly desirable.

  • A calm, exceptionally patient, and resilient approach.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable pupils and a commitment to their well-being.
