Job summary

Long Term Futures is seeking a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a primary school's SEND Hub in the Birmingham area from September 2026. The role is full-time and based in a SEND Hub supporting eight pupils transitioning from Reception to Year 1, with a focus on sensory and semi-formal curricula.

You will work closely with teachers, SENCO and therapists to deliver 1:1 and small-group interventions, supporting communication, emotional regulation and independence to help pupils access

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with SEN in primary or specialist settings.
• Experience with ASD and sensory-based learning is desirable.
• Ability to deliver 1:1 and small-group interventions.
• Patient, nurturing and resilient approach.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils in the SEND Hub through 1:1 and small-group interventions.

Long Term Futures are seeking a compassionate and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in the B26 area of Birmingham from September 2026.

This exciting full-time role will be based within the school's newly established SEND Hub, supporting eight pupils transitioning from Reception into Year 1. The provision has been designed to provide a nurturing, structured environment where pupils receive highly personalised support before progressing into mainstream education when they are ready.

You will support pupils following both a sensory curriculum, focusing on communication, emotional regulation, and independence, as well as a semi-formal curriculum, helping pupils develop the skills and confidence needed to successfully transition into Year 1. Your Key Responsibilities

• Support pupils within the school's dedicated SEND Hub through tailored 1:1 and small-group interventions
• Work with children following sensory and semi-formal learning pathways
• Develop pupils' communication, emotional regulation, and independence skills
• Support pupils with successful transitions into Year 1 mainstream classrooms when appropriate
• Deliver activities linked to EHCP outcomes and personalised learning plans
• Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, therapists, and wider school staff
• Promote positive behaviour and create a calm, structured learning environment
• Monitor pupil progress and contribute to ongoing assessment and support planning

Requirements

• Previous experience supporting children with SEN within a primary or specialist setting
• Experience working with pupils with Autism (ASD), communication needs, and developmental delays
• Understanding of sensory-based learning approaches and emotional regulation strategies is desirable
• Experience delivering 1:1 and small-group interventions
• Patient, nurturing, and resilient approach to supporting young children
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education
