Job summary

Protocol Education are working with a welcoming primary school in Yate seeking a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support in Key Stage 2.

This role will support a pupil with complex behavioural needs, an ASD diagnosis and PDA profile, requiring patience, consistency and a nurturing approach to the school day, with emphasis on relationships, progress, and ensuring the pupil feels safe and supported.

Qualifications

  • Experience of supporting pupils with SEND in a school setting.
  • Ability to provide 1:1 support and manage behaviour effectively.
  • DBS checked or willingness to apply; right to work in the UK; overseas checks if applicable.
  • Sponsorship is not available for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support for a pupil within Year 1 classroom.
  • Support children with complex SEND needs throughout the school day.
  • Assist with emotional regulation, engagement, communication and routines.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SEND team.
  • Create a positive, calm, encouraging learning environment.

Job description

Protocol Education are working with a welcoming primary school in Yate who are looking for a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support in Key Stage 2.

This role is supporting a child with complex behavioural needs, an ASD diagnosis and PDA profile. Therefore, the school is looking for someone who can bring patience, consistency, and a nurturing approach to the school day. This role would suit someone who genuinely enjoys building relationships, celebrating progress, and helping children feel safe and supported in their learning environment.

You'll be joining a friendly and supportive team where SEND support staff are valued and no day is ever quite the same.

What you'll be doing
  • Providing 1:1 support for a pupil within the Year 1 classroom
  • Supporting children with complex SEND needs throughout the school day
  • Helping with emotional regulation, classroom engagement, communication, and routines
  • Working closely with the class teacher and wider SEND team
  • Creating a positive, calm, and encouraging learning environment
We're looking for someone who
  • Has previous SEND experience within a school or similar setting
  • Feels confident supporting pupils with complex additional needs
  • Is calm, patient, and adaptable in challenging situations
  • Can build positive relationships quickly with pupils and staff
  • Is reliable, proactive, and ready to start ASAP

Due to the location of the school, driving is preferred. However, the school can also be accessed via train and bus routes.

Essential requirements
  • Enhanced child-only DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one
  • References covering the last 24 months
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Overseas police checks required for any overseas stays longer than 3 months within the past 5 years
  • Unfortunately, sponsorship is not available for this role

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
