Job summary

The Education Authority (Northern Ireland) invites applications for a Classroom Assistant - Special Educational Needs. You will support pupils with SEN under the direction of the class teacher and Education Authority staff, in classroom and school activities.

Essential criteria include a Level 2 qualification and experience in learning environments. Desirable criteria include a Level 3 qualification and dedicated safeguarding knowledge.

Qualifications

• Hold a minimum of Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in a relevant area from a recognised awarding body (Certificate or Diploma level).
• AND Have a minimum of 6 weeks experience in a formal learning environment or through a placement as part of your level 2 qualification.
• DESIRABLE: Level 3 (or equivalent) qualification in a relevant area; one year of experience with SEN.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the support and care of pupils with Special Educational Needs, enabling access to the curriculum and attending to personal needs.
• Develop understanding of pupils' needs and contribute to Education Plans and Care Plans under supervision.
• Support with operational and behavioural management programmes as directed by teachers.
• Assist pupils in moving around school and during transport, ensuring a safe environment.
