Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) is seeking a Classroom Assistant to support pupils with special educational needs. You will assist with curriculum access, care needs, and participation in educational plans under the direction of teachers and EA officers.

The role involves supporting both classroom and outreach activities, implementing behavioural management programs, and ensuring a safe, inclusive learning environment for pupils with diverse needs.

Qualifications

• Hold a minimum of a Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in a relevant area from a recognised accredited awarding body.
• Have a minimum of 6 weeks experience in a formal learning environment or via a placement.
• Desirable: Level 3 qualification in a relevant area.
• Desirable: Level 2 English and/or Mathematics passes.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the support and care of pupils with special educational needs to access the curriculum.
• Assist with personal needs including dietary, feeding, toileting, etc.
• Participate in Education/Care Plans and evaluation of support.
• Promote inclusion of pupils in mainstream settings under the class teacher's directions.
• Provide continuity of care and supervision, including safety in movements and activities.
• Assist with administration and recording of pupil progress as directed.
• Support off-site activities following risk assessments.
• Attend in-service training and support placement students.
