Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking an SEMH Youth Worker for a Specialist SEN Primary School in Stockport. You will provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH, helping them engage with learning and develop emotional regulation.

The role requires calm, compassionate and consistent communication, with the ability to form trusting relationships and collaborate with teachers and the wider SEN team. This is a rewarding long-term opportunity within a nurturing school environment.

• Experience supporting children with SEMH, autism or challenging behaviour.
• Ability to build calm, trusting relationships.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH and additional needs.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with children.
• Support pupils with emotional regulation and self-management.
• Help children understand and manage their emotions and behaviour.
• Support pupils during periods of dysregulation or heightened emotions.
• Use positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques as needed.
• Encourage positive communication, social skills and peer relationships.
• Support pupils to engage with learning and the wider school environment.
• Help children develop confidence, resilience and independence.
• Provide a calm, consistent and supportive presence throughout the day.
• Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff and external professionals.
• Follow individual support plans and contribute to pupils' development and progress.
