Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a Youth Support Worker for an SEMH secondary school in Oldham. You will build trusting relationships with pupils, providing 1:1 and small-group support to boost confidence, emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement.

The role focuses on helping pupils re-engage with learning, develop independence and resilience, and work with teachers and the pastoral/SEN team to provide consistent support.

Qualifications

  • Experience with youth work, residential care, mentoring, or education.
  • Experience with SEMH or SEN settings is beneficial.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient and consistent.

Responsibilities

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support around confidence, emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement.
  • Help pupils manage difficult situations and develop positive strategies for dealing with their emotions.
  • Support pupils to re-engage with learning and develop independence and resilience.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and help pupils recognise their strengths.
  • Work closely with teachers and the wider pastoral/SEN team to provide consistent support.
  • Support pupils during transitions, activities and different parts of the school day.
