Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting SEMH Teaching Assistants to work in Wakefield and surrounding areas on a supply basis, with options for day-to-day or longer-term placements starting in September.

You will support pupils with SEMH needs, helping them engage with learning and achieve personal targets while working closely with school staff to ensure a calm, supportive classroom environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or additional needs.
  • Strong behaviour management and safeguarding understanding.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Support emotional regulation, confidence and social development.
  • Collaborate with class teacher, SENCO and school team to implement support strategies.
  • Help manage behavioural challenges and promote positive learning behaviours.
  • Build trusting relationships and act as a positive role model.
  • Promote pupil wellbeing and safety following safeguarding procedures.

SEMH Teaching Assistant - Wakefield & Surrounding Areas

We're currently recruiting for SEMH Teaching Assistants to join Primary Schools and educational settings in and around Wakefield, on a long or short-term basis starting in September.

This role is on a supply basis and could either be Day-2-Day work or a Longer-Term position, depending on your preference.

This is a fantastic opportunity for new or experienced Teaching Assistants who are passionate about supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential.

You'll be joining supportive and inclusive schools that place pupils' wellbeing, development and individual needs at the centre of everything they do. It's a great opportunity for someone who wants to build strong relationships with pupils and make a genuine difference to their educational experience.

Your main responsibilities will include:
· Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs, helping them engage with learning and achieve their individual targets.
· Support pupils with their emotional regulation, confidence and social development, using a calm and consistent approach.
· Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team to implement appropriate support strategies.
· Help pupils manage behavioural challenges and barriers to learning, encouraging positive choices and independence.
· Build trusting relationships with pupils and act as a positive role model, creating a safe and supportive environment.
· Promote the safety and wellbeing of all pupils by following safeguarding procedures and school policies at all times.

Requirements or Skills:
· Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural or additional needs is desirable.
· A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable but not essential.
· A patient, resilient and empathetic approach, with the ability to remain calm and consistent when managing challenging situations.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
· An understanding of SEMH, behaviour management and inclusive education would be highly beneficial.
· The ability to use positive reinforcement and supportive strategies to encourage pupil engagement and independence.
· A genuine passion for supporting children and young people and helping them overcome barriers to learning.
· An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one) and the Right to Work in the UK.
