Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting an empathetic SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive secondary school located near Congleton, starting in September on a long-term basis. You will support students with SEMH needs in KS3 and KS4, both 1:1 and in small groups, alongside the classroom teacher.

The role focuses on inclusion, tailored supporting plans, and raising attainment through consistent behavioural strategies and positive intervention, with ongoing guidance from the SENCO.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting young people with SEMH or SEND in education or care.
  • Level 2/3 CACHE, Childcare, Supporting Teaching & Learning or equivalent.
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Ability to work under guidance of teacher and SENCO.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with SEMH needs 1:1 and in small groups KS3/KS4.
  • Assist lesson planning, evaluating and adapting resources per EHCPs.
  • Apply behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
  • Promote inclusion, independence and emotional well-being.

You will be joining an inclusive, modern secondary school conveniently located for educators local to Congleton focused on diversity, tailored support, and raising student attainment across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced or aspiring SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a passionate team and make a genuine impact conveniently located for educators local to Congleton.

What You’ll Be Doing in the Role:
  • Supporting pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs on a 1:1 and small group basis across KS3 and KS4.
  • Assisting the classroom teacher with lesson planning, evaluating, and adapting resources to suit individual EHCP requirements.
  • Implementing effective behaviour management and de-escalation strategies to foster a positive learning environment.
  • Promoting inclusion, independence, and emotional well-being for all students.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Must have recent and relevant experience supporting young people with SEMH or SEND in an education or care setting.
  • Holds a relevant Level 2 or Level 3 qualification (CACHE, Childcare, Supporting Teaching & Learning) or equivalent experience.
  • Possesses good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Must have the ability to work confidently under the guidance of the classroom teacher and SENCO.
