Job summary

Teaching Personnel are recruiting for a SEMH Behaviour Intervention Assistant to work within a specialist provision in Salford. This role supports young people with SEMH needs to access education.

You will provide 1:1 and small group support, follow individual behaviour plans, and help pupils develop emotional regulation and social skills, building strong relationships with staff and pupils to promote engagement.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children or young people.
  • Experience supporting individuals with SEMH needs.
  • Proven ability to manage challenging behaviour.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
  • Resilient, patient, and able to remain calm under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and follow individual behaviour support plans
  • Use effective strategies to de-escalate challenging behaviour
  • Support pupils in developing emotional regulation and social skills
  • Build strong, trusting relationships to support engagement and attendance
  • Assist teachers in delivering lessons and adapting materials where required
  • Monitor, track, and record pupil progress and behaviour
  • Provide support during unstructured times such as breaks and transitions
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SEN teams, and pastoral support

Job description

Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for a SEMH Behaviour Intervention Assistant to work within a specialist provision in Salford. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dedicated team supporting young people who require additional emotional and behavioural support to access education.

About the School

This specialist provision caters for pupils aged KS2–KS4 who present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and associated behavioural challenges. Many students have experienced barriers to learning such as disrupted education, trauma, or difficulties engaging in mainstream environments.

The setting offers a highly supportive, structured, and nurturing environment, with small class sizes and a strong emphasis on pastoral care, emotional development, and re-engagement with learning. Staff work closely together to create a safe and consistent environment where students can thrive.

Role Overview

As a Behaviour Intervention Assistant, you will support students with SEMH needs by promoting positive behaviour, encouraging engagement, and helping them develop key life and emotional regulation skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs

Requirements
Essential:
  • Previous experience working with children or young people
  • Experience supporting individuals with SEMH needs
  • Proven ability to manage challenging behaviour
  • Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle
  • Resilient, patient, and able to remain calm under pressure
Desirable:
  • Team Teach or similar behaviour management training
  • Background in education, youth work, care, or support settings

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
