Job summary

Teaching Personnel are seeking a qualified SEMH Teacher for secondary pupils in and around Thrapston. The role is full-time, permanent and long-term with September 2026 or ASAP start. You will deliver subject-specific, differentiated lessons and support pupils with SEMH needs in a calm, nurturing environment.

Applicants should have QTS and a secondary subject specialism, with proven SEMH experience and strong classroom management. Travel to nearby schools is expected in the Thrapston area.

Are you a qualified Secondary Teacher with a subject specialism and proven experience working with pupils with SEMH needs?

We are currently recruiting for full-time SEMH Teacher opportunities in and around Thrapston, working with secondary-aged pupils who require a more personalised and supportive approach to education.

This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate teacher who wants to make a genuine difference to young people who may have experienced barriers to learning within mainstream education.

The Role

As an SEMH Teacher, you will:

• Teach your subject specialism to secondary-aged pupils
• Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated and accessible lessons
• Adapt teaching to meet individual learning, behavioural and SEMH needs
• Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
• Create a calm, structured and nurturing learning environment
• Use effective behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
• Support pupils' academic, social and emotional development
• Work closely with Teaching Assistants, pastoral staff and external professionals
• Monitor progress and contribute to individual learning plans and targets
• Help pupils develop confidence, resilience and independence

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a teacher who has:

• QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
• A secondary subject specialism – English, Maths, Science, Humanities, PE, etc.
• Previous experience working with pupils with SEMH needs – essential
• Experience teaching secondary-aged pupils
• Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
• A calm, patient and resilient approach
• The ability to build positive relationships with challenging and vulnerable young people
• A genuine commitment to inclusive and personalised education
• The flexibility and willingness to travel to schools/settings in and around the Thrapston area

Experience within SEMH, SEND, Alternative Provision, PRU or specialist school settings would be highly advantageous.
