Job summary

Teaching Personnel is recruiting a qualified SEMH teacher for a secondary specialist provision in Crawley for September 2026. This is a school that works with secondary-aged students who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs — young people who are bright, complex and full of potential, and who need a teacher who sees all of that rather than just the challenges.

Class sizes are small. The multi-disciplinary team is strong. The support is genuine. What the school needs now is a teacher who combines solid subject knowledge with exceptional emotional intelligence, and who is ready to do some of the most meaningful teaching of their career.

What the role involves

• Planning and delivering engaging, well-differentiated lessons for secondary-aged students with SEMH needs, adapting content and approach in response to each student's emotional state and learning profile.


• Using restorative, trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches to build the kind of trusted relationships that allow students to take academic risks and make genuine progress.


• Managing a small-group classroom with confidence, warmth and clear professional boundaries.


• Contributing to Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) reviews, multi-agency meetings and pastoral planning.


• Working closely with therapists, pastoral staff and external agencies to ensure a joined-up approach to each student's education and wellbeing.


• Tracking student progress and using assessment data to adapt planning and demonstrate impact over time.


• Maintaining accurate records and upholding safeguarding procedures at all times.

What we're looking for

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent, with a secondary subject specialism.


• Experience teaching in an SEMH, alternative provision or specialist behaviour setting, or a strong background in secondary teaching with demonstrable knowledge of SEMH needs.


• An understanding of trauma-informed practice and restorative approaches — and the ability to apply them naturally in a classroom context.


• Emotionally intelligent, professionally resilient and genuinely excited by the challenge of reaching students that others have struggled to engage.


• Full-time availability from September 2026.


• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
