Role
As an SEMH Student Support Officer, you will play an important role in supporting students both personally and educationally. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing one-to-one and small-group support to students
- Building positive and trusting relationships with young people
- Supporting students with a range of SEMH and additional needs
- Helping students manage their emotions and develop positive coping strategies
- Supporting young people who may display challenging behaviour
- Helping students re-engage with learning following difficult situations
- Providing pastoral and wellbeing support throughout the school day
- Supporting students with confidence, resilience and self-esteem
- Encouraging positive behaviour, attendance and engagement
- Supporting students during periods of heightened emotion or anxiety
- Delivering or assisting with targeted interventions and mentoring
- Maintaining clear and consistent professional boundaries
- Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams, SEN staff and other professionals
- Monitoring student wellbeing and communicating relevant information to the wider team
Who Are We Looking For?
Previous experience supporting individuals with SEMH, SEN, mental health or behavioural needs would be highly beneficial. Your experience could come from:
- SEMH or specialist education
- Pastoral support
- Behaviour mentoring
- Mental health support
- Youth work
- Teaching assistance
- SEN/SEND support
- Residential childcare
- Social care
- Family support
- Mentoring
- Counselling or psychology
