Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment LTD. is seeking an SEMH Student Support Officer to provide personal and educational support to students in a school setting.

You will build trusting relationships, support students with SEMH and additional needs, and help them manage emotions and engage with learning. An emphasis will be placed on safeguarding and maintaining professional boundaries throughout the day.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting individuals with SEMH, SEN, mental health or behavioural needs is highly beneficial.
• Experience could come from SEMH or specialist education, pastoral support, behaviour mentoring, mental health support, youth work, teaching assistance, SEN/SEND support, residential childcare, social care, family support or mentoring.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students.
• Build positive and trusting relationships with young people.
• Support students with SEMH and additional needs.
• Help students manage emotions and develop coping strategies.
• Support students who may display challenging behaviour.
• Help students re-engage with learning after difficult situations.
• Provide pastoral and wellbeing support throughout the school day.
• Support students with confidence, resilience and self-esteem.
• Encourage positive behaviour, attendance and engagement.
• Support during periods of heightened emotion or anxiety.
• Deliver or assist with targeted interventions and mentoring.
• Maintain clear and consistent professional boundaries.
• Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams, SEN staff and other professionals.
• Monitor student wellbeing and communicate information to the wider team.
