Job summary

GSL Education is recruiting a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to work within a SEMH provision in the NE15 area of Newcastle. You will provide 1:1 and small-group support, helping pupils engage with lessons and develop social and emotional skills.

The role emphasises safeguarding, a safe learning environment and close collaboration with teachers and SEN staff. Experience in SEMH/SEND settings is valued, with opportunities for day-to-day, short-term or long-term placements across the NE15

Qualifications

• Experience in SEMH or SEND settings.
• Experience in alternative provisions or specialist schools.
• Experience in behaviour support or mentoring.
• Patient, resilient and confident with pupils.
• Strong ability to build relationships and manage challenging behaviour.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with SEMH needs in the classroom.
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support.
• Help pupils engage with lessons and overcome barriers.
• Support social and emotional development.
• Build positive relationships with pupils.
• Support pupils with challenging behaviour and emotional regulation.
• Encourage independence and confidence.
• Work with teachers and SEN staff.
• Follow safeguarding and wellbeing policies.
