Job summary

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to work in a SEMH provision in Wallsend, NE28. You will provide targeted 1:1 and small-group support, helping pupils engage with lessons and develop social-emotional skills within a safe learning environment.

You should be patient, resilient and confident, with experience in SEMH or SEND settings, and a willingness to work with diverse pupil needs. DBS and compliance checks apply.

Qualifications

• Experience in SEMH or SEND settings.
• Experience in alternative provisions or specialist schools.
• Behaviour support or mentoring experience.
• Patience, resilience and confidence in challenging situations.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with SEMH needs within the classroom.
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support based on pupil needs.
• Help pupils engage with lessons and overcome barriers to learning.
• Support pupils' social and emotional development.
• Build positive, consistent relationships with young people.
• Use strategies to support pupils with challenging behaviour and emotional regulation.
• Encourage positive behaviour, independence and confidence.
• Work closely with teachers, SEN staff and other professionals.
• Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.
• Follow safeguarding, behaviour and wellbeing policies at all times.
