Job summary

GSL Education in Doncaster is seeking a SEMH Support Staff to provide consistent, individualised support to primary pupils facing social, emotional and behavioural challenges. You will work with class teachers and pastoral staff to deliver one-to-one and small-group support to help pupils engage positively with learning.

The role requires a calm, patient approach, strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with teachers.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience with primary-aged children is desirable.
  • Experience supporting SEMH or additional needs is advantageous.
  • Calm, patient and consistent approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt approach to meet individual children's needs.
  • Confidence working collaboratively with teachers and wider school staff.
  • A genuine commitment to supporting children's wellbeing and education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Help children recognise and manage their emotions appropriately.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and engagement during lessons.
  • Support pupils with classroom routines, transitions and activities.
  • Build positive professional relationships with pupils while maintaining clear boundaries.
  • Work closely with class teachers and pastoral staff to follow individual support strategies.
  • Monitor behaviour and engagement and share relevant observations with staff.
