Job summary

Aspire People are recruiting SEMH Teaching Assistants to support pupils in Manchester primary schools. You will provide 1:1 and small-group SEMH support to help learners engage with class activities and develop emotional regulation strategies.

We’re seeking candidates with recent experience working with children or young people, a calm, consistent approach, strong communication, safeguarding awareness, and a commitment to building positive relationships.

Qualifications

• Recent experience supporting children or young people.
• Understands SEMH and challenging behaviour.
• Calm and consistent under pressure.
• Ability to build positive relationships with children.
• Strong communication and de-escalation skills.
• Understands that behaviour can be a form of communication.
• Maintains clear boundaries with nurturing approach.
• Committed to safeguarding.

Responsibilities

• Providing 1:1 and small-group SEMH support
• Supporting pupils with behavioural and emotional needs
• Helping children develop emotional regulation strategies
• Supporting pupils before, during and after challenging situations
• Implementing individual behaviour strategies
• Building trusting and consistent relationships
• Supporting classroom engagement
• Helping pupils manage transitions and unstructured periods
• Working alongside teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams
• Encouraging resilience, confidence and independence
