Job summary

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Security Officer to support the provision of security services in a busy hospital environment. The role involves responding to security incidents and fire calls across the site, patrolling, handling cash, assisting the public, and managing traffic across the campus.

The successful candidate will work in a team, may rotate shifts, have experience in security, good communication, and a flexible approach.

Qualifications

• Current full manual UK driving licence held and comfortable driving light vans.
• NVQ or equivalent qualification is required or preferred.
• Experience in security roles and good communication/interpersonal skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist Trust management in delivering effective security services with available equipment and resources.
• Provide essential Fire and Rescue Team response to Helipad as required.

Security Officer

An opportunity has arisen for a Security Officer, required to assist in the provision of Security Services in an extremely busy hospital environment.

The successful candidate will work within a team providing response to security incidents/alarm & fire calls throughout the site. Many response calls you will be required to attend can involve violent and/or aggressive scenarios. In addition, the role includes site patrols, handling of cash, dealing with and assisting the general public, traffic management across the site plus a range of additional duties.

Main duties of the job

• Candidates should be able to perform well within a team, show great enthusiasm and be flexible as the position will involve working on a rotary shift basis.
• Previous experience within a security role and an understanding of what this involves is required. Applicants must have good communication and interpersonal skills and be able to demonstrate a flexible attitude towards their work.

Job responsibilities

• To assist Trust management in the provision of effective / efficient Security services using all equipment / resources available to the department.
• To provide essential Fire and Rescue Team response to Helipad as required.

Person Specification

Knowledge

• Use of electrical equipment including driving of tugs and use of hand-barrows.
• Knowledge of Trust sites an advantage.
• Knowledge of Portering / Security procedures / systems of operation.

Skills

• The post holder should be able to communicate well, have good writing skills and be able to work alone or as part of a team.
• Good keyboard skills / use of PC

Experience

• Experience in customer service.
• Portering / Security experience.
• Experience in other Security tasks such as the use of CCTV equipment, and has qualifications in the relevant areas

Qualifications

• The post holder must hold a current Full manual UK driving licence and be comfortable driving light vans.
• NVQ or similar qualifications
