The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Critical Care Support Assistant on the Victoria Critical Care Unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. The post supports busy neuro and trauma care, with a 37.5-hour week and a commitment to high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

  • NVQ 2 in care or equivalent, or relevant experience.
  • GCSE English & Maths at grades 3-1.
  • Basic IT skills and ability to work in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist nurses and healthcare staff in direct patient care.
  • Report concerns about patient condition promptly.
  • Help maintain privacy and dignity of patients.
  • Support the MDT to meet departmental objectives.
  • Keep ward clean, tidy and organized; manage stock.
  • Ensure a safe, clean environment for patients and visitors.
  • Support with nutrition provision for ward patients.
  • Assist with admin and clerical tasks as required.

An exciting opportunity has become available to join the team on the Victoria Critical Care Unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary as a Critical Care Support Assistant.

The post holder will work on a busy critical care unit that specializes in neuro conditions and major trauma injuries.

Main duties of the job

This role will involveassistingregistered nurses and other healthcare practitioners in providing high quality patient care and report any concernsregardingapatientscondition to the registered practitioner.

The post holder willbe requiredto work part of an effective multi-disciplinary team contributing to the departmentalobjectives.

Job responsibilities
  • Post holder will be expected to contribute to housekeeping and other ward / department duties as required, e.g. general tidiness, re-determined stock levels are met and clinical equipment is clean, working and stored correctly.
  • To abide by Trust policies and procedures
  • To assist the registered nurses (or other healthcare practitioners) in providing high quality patient care and report any concerns regarding the patients condition to the qualified nurse.
  • Maintain patients privacy and dignity at all times and provide care in a compassionate and sensitive manner.
  • Be an effective part of the multi-disciplinary team contributing to the departmental objectives.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean and comfortable environment for the patients, their families and visitors.
  • Actively contribute to the provision of nutrition of the patients on the Ward / Department
  • Assist with admin & clerical duties as required.

Person Specification
KNOWLEDGE
  • Ability to maintain and improve knowledge, skills and competence to ensure high standards of patient care.
  • Ability to meet basic care needs of patients.
  • Understanding of confidentiality
  • Basic knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control
  • Understanding of basic food hygiene concepts
  • Understanding of basic safeguarding
  • An understanding of working in the NHS
SKILLS
  • Basic IT skills
  • Ability to be responsible for own development, identifying training needs, set personal objectives and attend appropriate training as agreed by line manager.
  • Ability to initiate emergency action when required e.g. Cardiac arrest, Fire.
EXPERIENCE
  • Ability to plan, prioritise own and delegated work tasks and activities
  • Experience of caring in a health care setting
QUALIFICATIONS
  • NVQ Level 2 in appropriate subject (or on pathway) or equivalent qualification / experience in care or domestic work
  • GCSEs in English and Maths at Grades 3-1 (or D-G or Level 1 Functional/Key Skills)
